what to bring

Whilst many of our guests seek out local restaurants and cafés, for their dining enjoyment, there are those that want to simply just stay on the property and enjoy the ambience at meal time and take advantage of the wood fired BBQs. If you plan to prepare your meals here we can offer some suggestions on where to shop for provisions as there are no shops close by. 

In the local town of Cessnock you will find an excellent choice of supermarkets including

• Coles, Cooper Street Cessnock. Open from 6am to midnight Monday to Saturday. and 7am to 10pm Sunday.
• Woolworths, off Cooper Street in Cessnock Plaza. Open from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 10pm Sunday.
• Aldi, corner of Wollombi Road and Darwin Street Cessnock. Open Monday to Wednesday 9am to 6pm, Thursday 9am to 8pm, Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 8:30am to 6pm, Sunday 10am to 4pm.
• IGA supermarket open till 6pm each day is a 10 minute drive away on the New England Highway.

Pokolbin enjoys all four seasons so you need to be prepared for the climate of each season.

During Summer we have very mild nights followed by hot days with clear skies. However, summer and spring is when we receive most rainfall so be prepared.  In summer you will see the vineyards in all their splendour. Row after row of lush vigorous vines.  Its the time when harvest commences.

Autumn brings the change of colour to the vines as the leaves change from their summer green to the shades of autumn. Harvest is finished and winemaking is on in earnest.  Mild days followed by mild evenings and cooler nights.

Winter - glorious winter. Big bright clear skies with crisp cool nights which invite the lighting of log fires. During winter the vines are pruned and the vineyards are tended.

Then there is Spring where the valley comes to life again. The vines start shooting at budburst and concerts are on again including classic events like Jazz In The Vines and Opera In The Vineyards. Expect warm to occasional hot days with balmy evenings and nights.
